Speech of the month July 2020!

This summer month colleague Huib Hudig has not been idle!

At the Nieuws BV on NPO Radio 1 as well as on NPO2 on TV, he discussed with Joost Bekendam several speeches, including the inaugural address of the new president of Suriname.

But... the Speech of the Month this time is from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC for short)! It concerned her rejoinder in the U.S. Congress to Ted Yoho who had called her a "f*cking b#tch."

Watch her story here:

Why AOC first?

  1. Because it's a nicely constructed argument in which she goes from small to large. (It is not an incident, but exemplary of the Trump administration.)
  2. Because it features all sorts of fine figures of speech and triplets that give it rhythm; it sounds like a rap.
  3. Because she delivers it with a ferocity and power that the Democrats could well use in their fight for the presidency.
